Beach volleyball is a sport in which two teams of two play on a sandy surface separated by a net. It has a variety of different game forms to meet the needs of different people and different environments. [1] In the 1920s, beach volleyball originated in Santa Monica Beach, California, USA; it began to spread to Europe in 1927; in the 1930s, two-person beach volleyball appeared; In the 1950s and 1960s, beach volleyball became an indispensable recreational activity on the beaches of California, USA; since the 1970s, commercial factors have been involved in beach volleyball competitions, and its ornamental value has also greatly increased. In 1986, the first international beach volleyball competition was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; in 1992, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) established the beach volleyball department; from July 23 to 28, 1996, the first beach volleyball competition was held on the beach in Atlanta, USA. In 1998, the International Volleyball Federation set up the challenge, satellite and amateur competitions as important events outside the international tour.
The major international events of beach volleyball mainly include the Olympic Beach Volleyball Competition and the World Beach Volleyball Tournament. The Olympic Games are held every 4 years. The World Beach Volleyball Tournament is held once a year, including 3 different levels of events: 1. Grand Slam; 2. Open; 3. Challenger.
